Question: Tell me about writing “cowgirls”
ERNEST: “The idea for the song Cowgirls came from Beth Dutton. The episode where she decides to get back on the horse and start riding again. And for whatever reason, that night I was just like, that’s badass. And then the next day, we brought in the idea of long live cowgirls, because I thought to myself, long live cowgirls when she was just riding a wild horse again.”

Question: here also seems to be a cadence to the order of the songs. Was that intentional?
Morgan Wallen: Yeah, we you know, we would do like two more traditional country sound songs then we do like an alternative sounding song to two traditional sounding songs, a beat driven song. And then because there was more country, you know, sounding songs on the album than there was anything else, and they’re all they all have a country, obviously, to them. But the others, the songs that were influenced more by other genres, we try to sprinkle them in, you know, in between all the country songs. So I feel like it worked out fine. We just we kind of went into Seth’s office one day and had a big, well, actually, we just put them on the floor all the, all the papers of the songs, and we just started sliding them around and like, making a little puzzle kind of. And just then we just that’s how it ended. It took about an hour probably, You know, like, all right, this works.”

Question: Tell me about this Ryl tea collaboration & did your family have any input?
Morgan Wallen: “Yeah. So, you know, a lot of brands over the past couple of years have have, I don’t know, came and went with with offers and things like that. Most of them being alcohol. And I just felt like so many people have whiskey or tequila or something. I just see it everywhere. So I didn’t really want to do that, at least not at this point. And I met, you know, the people from Ryl Tea and they told me about, you know, the, the health benefits of it, first of all. And then they let me have an input on it on the recipe. And, you know, I got to taste test a bunch of different ones. My, my, my family didn’t really have they kind of already had most of the recipe pretty nailed down. So I think if I came in trying to trying to wreck the whole thing up, then I they might not like that too much. But I did send them like the, the trial runs and things, you know, to make sure they liked it, because I knew if they didn’t like it, then a lot of people probably wouldn’t like it. At least not, you know, from where I’m from. So they still had a they still had a piece in it, just just not in the recipe.”

Question: Seems to be a lot of family that is apart of the “One Thing At A Time” album..
Morgan Wallen: “yeah. I mean, Jared is has been a songwriter in town for a little while now, I guess, you know, around the same. A little bit longer than than me. But I think he’s one of the most talented and most underrated songwriters in Nashville. So anytime that he has a song that he sends me, I always listen to it really, really intently. And, he’s actually got a couple songs on there, and I’m sure I’ll have a couple, a couple more on whatever I do next. But it makes me proud. You know, it’s cool is cool because we didn’t know each other before I moved to Nashville. And and music is is what brought us together and made us realize we’re family. So it’s it’s cool to see, you know, people who grew up having no idea that we were blood relatives come together and then get to make music together is is pretty special. And then my sister, we’ve always we’ve always sang together pretty much since we were little children. Both of my sisters, actually. But Ashlyn lives in Nashville, and so was kind of a last minute decision. So she’s the only one that made this record. But I love singing. Whether we all, you know, we grew up singing hymns and things like that in church. And, it’s it’s nice to be able to kind of let that come full circle on a song like that.”

Morgan Wallen: “It’s exciting to get to go do it again. You know, we’re going to change up some stuff production wise and be able to sell some more tickets and and things like that. So hopefully more people get to experience it. And yeah, we’re all looking forward to it.”
