Question: Did I hear you say “baby blues” was a pretty easy write?
Ashley Cooke: It was, yeah, Baby Blues was a really easy song to write. That was one, we were pretty hung over on our writing retreat and we all woke up the next day trying to just like finish a song, trying to get, you know, one of our other songs finished and somebody mentioned that title and so we were like, oh, we should just write this song. This is such a cool colloquial idea and it happened so quickly and felt so easy and it flowed so well. So probably Baby Blues was the easiest one to write for sure.

Question: What has been a pinch me moment recently?
Ashley Cooke: Pinch Me moment, I think getting my sophomore record in hand in the vinyl form and getting to play that on my home record player, it was so cool just hearing it all come together and I feel like this project has been years and years in the making since Shot in the Dark, my debut record and it’s a self-titled, there’s a lot of just really raw organic stuff on the project so I think it was just cool to hear it all top-down come together and listen to it as if I was a fan listening to it.

Question: Tell me about writing “baby blues” and who with!
Ashley Cooke: “I was on a writing retreat. Some of my favorite co-writers, Kyle Sturrock, Johnny Claussen, Seth Ennis, and Joe Fox. And it was the first writing retreat of the year. We were writing our songs together for the first time at the top of January. And it so fun, we wrote a lot of stuff that was on my project, ACE, and this song came of it and it was just one of my favorites songs that I’ve gotten to write so far.”

Ashley Cooke: “Always Friends, friends always forever. I watched it this morning on the way to, or about to leave for the office. Big friends fan. I think, yeah, I’m looking for the Ross to my Rachel for sure.”
